What's In A Name ?

Today was an interesting day.  I changed the URL address only to find I couldn't change it back.  Then i had to leave messages on Facebook, Twitter and my other Blog to let people know where the we had gone to.

It looks like it has worked it's self out now and it seems that readers are finding us.

So what did I learn today ??? well the first thing was, don't going changing stuff until you are sure you can put it back right, the second thing was as follows.

Your choice of domain name can have a huge impact on the future of the business.  When I first chose the Blog name i was fresh into this business and learning at an incredible rate.  The name "How-I-became-an-internet-marketer" was completely relevant because i was building this business from scratch.  As time moved on and I learnt the required skills to purpose of the Blog started to change.  It was no longer about me and what I was doing, now it was all about you and the service this Blog could do for you.

When you are creating a Webpage, or a Facebook page.... or even a Blog like this one, it is imperative that you choose the correct name,

The first reason is because you want the major search engines to find you, and you need to be as far up their ranking as you can, ideally you want to be on the first page of the results page because that is where readers will look to find whatever they are looking for.

The second reason is familiarity and simplicity.  It has to be a name that people can remember and relate to, in my case with this Blog you have to ask yourself this question.

Am I really interested in what this Lyndon guy is doing, or am I really interested in what this site can do for me?

Well the truth of the matter is..... people care about themselves and what's in it for them.  So the answer was obvious, i had to change the name to better describe what the Blog was doing now.

The end result was the name change and just by doing that simple task..... the readership of this site received twice as many hits today as it normally gets in one day.

So that, my friends, is the mini-lesson for today..... When you create your website, give lots of thought to your website name.
