You may have already read the articles below from Guest Authors on Twitter Following. I would now like to give you my input on this very controversial subject....... and I am also quite happy to talk about my present Twitter strategy, including my reasoning (read justification)
As you know I opened the gates of Snowbird Marketing Enterprises six months ago and I started with nothing...... no knowledge, no websites, no funds and very little experience.
Well you can probably see by the amount of posting, face-booking, Tweeting, article writing and general marketing activity...... that I have been pretty obsessed with building my brand.
By far one of the most complex methods I have used is Twitter. It seems to be the bandwagon that everyone has jumped on and I don't mind admitting that at fist I thought it was just a glorified texting platform... just blast out your message in 140 characters or less and you are done.
Little did I realize that Twitter is a complex mish-mash of business and personal interaction which has developed sets of rules and etiquette that quite frankly have to be followed.
When I first started using the platform I was using the Blog tweeter ( I think that's what it's called) at the bottom of each post to just promote my article to see if people were interested in clicking over and reading my work. This was long winded and i was just inserting the "Long" URL addresses which obviously shortens your possible message.
As time went on and I gained more experience I realized that the more people I followed the bigger my audience...... so I started following lots of people so they would follow me. This was great until I hit the magic 2000 followers and now I cannot follow any more people until I have 2000 people following me.
I then had another great idea, use the services of an "Auto Tweeter" so I could put a strategy in place so I could auto follow people and after a number of days I would unfollow people who didn't follow me back.
I actually reached this point last week, my aim was to get as many people following me at all costs......
However, I am now digging a little deeper and my new revelation is that I am not the only person doing this..... and I am not the only person travelling this road. There are in fact hundreds of thousands of people on Twitter doing exactly the same thing, looking for nameless followers to "Get your Brand out there".
What I now know is that Twitter is a mass of robots all following and unfollowing each other in one perpetual merry-go-round.
I am not saying that this is all bad because there are real people tweeting amongst the sea of Robots....
If any of you are out there reading this please leave me a comment so I know you are there.... 8-)
More to follow (s'cuse the pun) on this subject..............
